The podcast where we look at the world of film from a variety of different angles
The Best Pick book is out now
Best Pick, the book, is a brand new version of our journey through 92 years of Best Picture winning movies. A complete history of Hollywood, the Academy Awards and the movies in general. Twenty films are reviewed in-depth, alongside ten detailed “making-of” accounts and capsule reviews of every single Best Picture winner in history. In addition, each Best Picture winner is carefully scrutinized to answer the ultimate question: “Did the Academy get it right?”

John Dorney, Jessica Regan and Tom Salinsky are film fans and Oscar fans. At the beginning of 2018, they set themselves a task. Put the names of all the Academy Award Best Picture winners in a hat. Draw them out in a random order. Research, watch and then discuss each one in turn. And because it was 2018, it had to be a podcast. That process is now completed and new listeners may prefer to use this feed https://bestpickpod.com/bpfeed2.rss which arranges the episodes from earliest film (Wings from 1928) to most recent (CODA at the time of writing) instead of the random order in which we released the episodes. But the podcast is continuing, broadening its remit and taking different approaches in different episodes.
On these pages you can find out more about us, listen to all our past episodes and we’ll also announce any news we might have, like one of our occasional live shows, let you know what movie we might be watching next, and keep you up to date with our progress towards our goal.
